Abstract

In March 2018 in Denpasar City recorded inflation of 0.15 percent with the Consumer Price Index (CPI 2012 = 100) of 129.40. The calendar year inflation rate (January - March 2018) was recorded at 1.75 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (March 2018 to March 2017) was 3.23 percent.
Inflation was indicated by rising indexes in four expenditure categories, namely health group recorded inflation of 1.12 percent, clothing category recorded inflation of 0.67 percent, foodstuff category recorded inflation of 0.38 percent, as well as education, recreation and sport recorded inflation of 0.08 percent. While the group recorded a decline in index / deflation are the finished food, beverage, cigarette and tobacco group by 0.12 percent, the transportation, communication and financial services group by 0.05 percent, and the housing, water, electricity, gas, and fuel by 0.03 percent.

The recorded commodities contributed to inflation in March 2018, including onion, cayenne pepper, garlic, cooking oil and non-subsidized gasoline. Commodities recorded decline in prices or withstand the rate of inflation include air, sand, rice, and chicken meat tariffs.
Out of 82 CPI cities, there were 57 cities experiencing inflation. The highest inflation was recorded in Jayapura (Papua) of 2.10 percent and the lowest recorded in Sumenep (East Java) by 0.01 percent. The highest deflation was recorded in Tual (Maluku) of 2.30 percent and the lowest in Bulukumba (South Sulawesi) by 0.01 percent. If sorted from the highest inflation, then Denpasar ranks 38th of 57 cities experiencing inflation.
