In May 2019 the city of Denpasar recorded inflation of 0.22 percent with the Consumer Price Index (CPI 2012 = 100) of 132.68. The May 2019 calendar year inflation rate was recorded 0.90 percent while the year-on-year inflation rate (May 2019 against May 2018 or YoY) was recorded at 2.50 percent.
Five expenditure groups recorded inflation (m to m), namely group VII (transport, communication and financial services) by 0.89 percent; group II (prepared food, drinks, cigarettes and tobacco) by 0.53 percent; group V (health) by 0.27 percent; group VI (education, recreation and sports) by 0.15 percent; and group III (housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel) by 0.09 percent. Meanwhile, two groups recorded experiencing deflation, namely group I (foodstuff) by -0.44 percent and group IV (clothing) by -0.01 percent.
Commodities recorded contributing to or contributing to inflation in May 2019 include: vehicle maintenance / service costs; inter-city transportation rates; bottled water, oranges, papaya, and red chili.
From 82 CPI cities, 81 cities experienced inflation and 1 city experienced deflation. The highest inflation was recorded in Tual (Maluku) by 2.91 percent while the lowest inflation was recorded in Kediri (East Java) by 0.05 percent. Deflation was recorded in the City of Merauke (Papua) with deflation of -0.49 percent. If sorted from the highest inflation, then Denpasar ranks 76th out of 81 cities experiencing inflation.
