Denpasar City Consumer Price/Inflation Index March 2021

Abstract

In March 2021 Denpasar City recorded inflation as high as 0.47 percent as indicated by an increase in the Consumer Price Index (base year 2018=100) from 104.81 in February 2021 to 105.30 in March 2021. Meanwhile, the inflation rate for the calendar year (year to date/ytd) and year-on-year inflation rates (March 2021 against March 2020 or YoY) were recorded as high as 1.04 percent and 0.52 percent, respectively.



Of the eleven expenditure groups, eight expenditure groups experienced inflation, namely group I (food, beverages, and tobacco) as high as 1.80 percent; group II (clothing and footwear) as high as 0.61 percent; group VIII (recreation, sports, and culture) as high as 0.25 percent; group IV (equipment, equipment, and routine household maintenance) as high as 0.18 percent; group VII (information, communication, and financial services) as high as 0.12 percent; group XI (personal care and other services) as high as 0.10 percent; group X (providing food and beverages/restaurants) as high as 0.01 percent; and group V (health) as high as 0.01 percent. Meanwhile, two expenditure groups recorded deflation, namely group VI (transportation) of 0.11 percent and group III (housing, water, electricity, and household fuel) of 0.09 percent. One other expenditure group recorded no change in index or was stagnant, namely group IX (education).



Commodities that have contributed or contributed to inflation in March 2021 include cayenne pepper, broiler meat, air transportation fares, preserved tuna, mango, shallots, oranges, disposable baby diapers, tomatoes, and white cigarettes.



Of the 90 CPI cities, 58 cities experienced inflation and 32 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation was recorded in Jayapura City (Papua) at 1.07 percent, while the lowest inflation was recorded in Tangerang City (Banten) and Banjarmasin City (South Kalimantan) at 0.01 percent respectively. Meanwhile, the deepest deflation was recorded in Bau-Bau City (Southeast Sulawesi) at 0.99 percent, while the shallowest deflation was recorded in Palopo City (South Sulawesi) at 0.01 percent. If sorted from the highest inflation rate, Denpasar City ranks 9th out of 58 cities experiencing inflation.
