Abstract

In February 2022, Bali Province (Denpasar City and Singaraja City Combined) recorded a deflation of 0.44 percent as indicated by a decrease in the Consumer Price Index (base year 2018=100) from 107.74 (2018=100) in January 2022 to 107. .27 in February 2022. Meanwhile, the inflation rate for the calendar year (year to date/ytd) in February 2022 was 0.59 percent. The year-on-year inflation rate (February 2022 against February 2021 or YoY) was recorded as high as 2.02 percent.

Deflation occurred due to the decline in the prices of public consumption goods/services as indicated by the decline in the CPI in the four expenditure groups. Four groups of expenditures were recorded as experiencing deflation, namely: group IV (equipment, equipment, and routine household maintenance) at 2.41 percent; group I (food, beverages, and tobacco) as deep as 1.43 percent; VI (transportation) as deep as 0.28 percent; and group II (clothing and footwear) as deep as 0.12 percent. Five expenditure groups recorded inflation, namely group XI (personal care and other services) as high as 1.79 percent; group VIII (recreation, sports, and culture) as high as 1.38 percent; group VII (information, communication, and financial services) as high as 0.05 percent; group V (health) as high as 0.03 percent; and group III (housing, water, electricity, and household fuel) as high as 0.02 percent. Meanwhile, two other expenditure groups recorded no change in index or were stagnant, namely group IX (education) and group X (providing food and beverages/restaurants).

Of the 90 CPI cities, 53 cities experienced deflation and 37 cities experienced inflation. The deepest deflation was recorded in Tanjung Pandan City (Bangka Belitung Islands) as deep as 2.08 percent. If sorted from deepest deflation, Denpasar City ranks 24th and Singaraja City ranks 9th out of 53 cities experiencing deflation.
