Abstract

In May 2018 in Singaraja City recorded a deflation of 0.33 percent with the Consumer Price Index (CPI, 2012 = 100) of 140.91. The inflation rate for calendar year (January - May 2018) is 0.90 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (May 2018 to May 2017 / YoY) is 2.61 percent.

Deflation was indicated by a decrease in the index in the housing, water, electricity, gas & fuel group by 0.74 percent and foodstuff by 0.68 percent.

The recorded commodities contributed to deflation in May 2018, among others: rice, sand, brick, tuna / ambu-ambu, cayenne pepper, red pepper, vegetable tomatoes, bottled water and cucumber.

Out of 82 CPI cities, 17 cities experienced deflation and 65 cities experienced inflation. The highest deflation was recorded in Pangkal Pinang (Bangka Belitung Islands) of 0.99 percent and the lowest recorded in Pematang Siantar (North Sumatra) by 0.01 percent. The highest inflation was recorded in Tual (Maluku) at 1.88 percent and the lowest recorded in Purwokerto (Central Java) and Tangerang (Banten) respectively by 0.01 percent.

If sorted from the highest deflation, then Singaraja ranks 7th out of 17 cities experiencing deflation.
