In February 2019 Singaraja City experienced a deflation of -0.34 percent with the Consumer Price Index (CPI 2012 = 100) of 142.62. The calendar year inflation rate was 0.24 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (February 2019 against February 2018 or YoY) was 1.00 percent.
Deflation (m to m) is indicated by a decrease in the index in three expenditure groups, namely group I (food stuff) by -1.59 percent; group VII (transport, communication and financial services) by -0.35 percent and group VI (education, recreation and sports) by -0.19 percent. While the groups that recorded an increase in index or inflation were group II (processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco) by 0.57 percent; group V (health) by 0.42 percent; group IV (clothing) by 0.39 percent and group III (housing, water, electricity and fuel) by 0.04 percent.
Commodities recorded contributing or contributing to deflation in February 2019 include: pedigree chicken, cayenne pepper, onion, non-subsidized gasoline, broiler eggs, bananas, cucumbers, cooking oil, soft drinks, color television and apples.
From 82 CPI cities, there were 69 cities experiencing deflation and 13 cities experiencing inflation. The deepest deflation was recorded in Merauke (Papua) by -2.11 percent and the shallowest in Serang (Banten) by -0.02 percent. The highest inflation was recorded in Tual (Maluku) by 2.98 percent while the lowest inflation was recorded in Kendari (Southeast Sulawesi) by 0.03 percent. If ranked from the deepest deflation, Singaraja ranks 30th out of 69 cities experiencing deflation.
