In February 2019 Denpasar City recorded a deflation of -0.43 percent with the Consumer Price Index (CPI 2012 = 100) of 131.74. The February 2019 calendar year inflation rate was recorded at 0.18 percent while the year-on-year inflation rate (February 2019 against February 2018 or YoY) was 1.96 percent.
Two expenditure groups recorded deflation (m to m), namely group VII (transport, communication, and financial services) by -2.22 percent and group I (foodstuffs) by -1.20 percent. Meanwhile, five other groups recorded inflation: group V (health) by 0.85 percent, group II (processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco) by 0.57 percent; group IV (clothing) by 0.44 percent; group III (housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel) 0.16 percent; and group VI (education, recreation and sports) by 0.09
percent.
Commodities recorded contributing to or contributing to deflation in February 2019 include: air transport rates, broiler chicken meat, non-subsidized gasoline, cayenne pepper, onion, red chili, and bottled water.
From 82 CPI cities, there were 69 cities experiencing deflation and 13 cities experiencing inflation. The deepest deflation was recorded in Merauke (Papua) by -2.11 percent and the shallowest in Serang (Banten) by -0.02 percent. The highest inflation was recorded in Tual (Maluku) by 2.98 percent while the lowest inflation was recorded in Kendari (Southeast Sulawesi) by 0.03 percent. If sorted from the deepest deflation, then Denpasar ranks 23rd out of 69 cities experiencing deflation.
