In March 2019 the city of Denpasar recorded inflation of 0.24 percent with the Consumer Price Index (CPI 2012 = 100) of 132.05. The March 2019 calendar year inflation rate was 0.42 percent while the year-on-year inflation rate (March 2019 against March 2018 or YoY) was 2.05 percent.
Four expenditure groups recorded inflation (m to m), namely group I (foodstuff) by 0.73 percent; group VII (transport, communication and financial services) by 0.34 percent; group V (health) by 0.29 percent; and group II (processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco) 0.27 percent. Meanwhile, three other groups recorded deflation, namely group IV (clothing) by -0.13 percent; group III (housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel) by -0.09 percent; and group VI (education, recreation and sports) by -0.08 percent.
Commodities recorded contributing to or contributing to inflation in March 2019 include: air freight rates, boiled tuna, young jackfruit, onions, garlic, apples, spinach, and gold jewelry.
From 82 CPI cities, 51 cities experienced inflation and 31 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation was recorded in Ambon (Maluku) by 0.86 percent while the lowest inflation was recorded in Bekasi (West Java) and Tangerang (Banten) each by 0.01 percent. The deepest deflation was recorded in Tual (Maluku) by -3.03 percent and the shallowest in Palembang (South Sumatra), Batam (Riau Islands) and Sampit (Central Kalimantan) each by -0.01 percent. If sorted from the highest inflation, then Denpasar ranks 26th out of 51 cities experiencing inflation.
