In January 2020 the City of Denpasar was recorded to experience inflation as high as 0.55 percent, which is the same as the inflation rate for the calendar year January 2020 which is shown by the Consumer Price Index (CPI 2018 = 100) of 104.23. Meanwhile, the year-on-year inflation rate (January 2020 against January 2019 or YoY) was recorded as high as 2.42 percent.
Of the eleven expenditure groups, six expenditure groups recorded inflation (m to m), namely group I (food, beverages, and tobacco) as high as 2.72 percent; group XI (personal care and other services) as high as 0.65 percent; group V (health) as high as 0.38 percent; group VIII (recreation, sports, and culture) as high as 0.29 percent; group IX (education) as high as 0.27 percent; group IV (equipment, tools, and household routine maintenance) as high as 0.09 percent. Meanwhile, three categories of expenditure recorded deflation, namely group VI (transportation) at -1.43 percent; group II (clothing and footwear) with a depth of -0.14 percent; group VII (information, communication and financial services) as deep as -0.02 percent. Group III (housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels) and group X (provision of food and beverages / restaurants) recorded no change in index or were stagnant.
Commodities recorded as contributing to or contributing to inflation in January 2020 include, among others, cayenne pepper, rice, red chilies, cooking oil, shallots, white cigarettes, gold jewelry, foreign language courses, papaya and squid.
Of the 90 CPI cities, 79 cities experienced inflation and 11 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation was recorded in Meulaboh City (Aceh) as high as 1.44 percent while the lowest inflation was recorded in Kota Gorontalo (Gorontalo) as high as 0.03 percent. Meanwhile, the deepest deflation was recorded in Bau-Bau City (Southeast Sulawesi) at -1.39 percent, while the lowest deflation was recorded in Kota Kudus (Central Java) as deep as -0.01 percent. If sorted from the highest inflation, Denpasar ranks 32 out of 79 cities experiencing inflation.
