Abstract

In February 2020 the City of Denpasar was recorded to experience inflation as high as 0.39 percent as indicated by the Consumer Price Index (CPI 2018 = 100) of 104.64. Meanwhile, the inflation rate for the year February 2020 and the year-on-year inflation rate (February 2020 against February 2019 or YoY) were recorded as high as 0.96 percent and 3.50 percent respectively.



Of the eleven expenditure groups, eight expenditure groups recorded inflation (m to m), namely group I (food, beverages, and tobacco) as high as 1.18 percent; group VIII (recreation, sports, and culture) as high as 0.71 percent; group X (food and beverage / restaurant provision) as high as 0.67 percent; group XI (personal care and other services) as high as 0.49 percent; group IV (equipment, tools, and household routine maintenance) as high as 0.43 percent; group II (clothing and footwear) as high as 0.41 percent; group V (health) as high as 0.10 percent; group VII (information, communication and financial services) as high as 0.01 percent. Meanwhile, one expenditure group recorded deflation, namely group VI (transportation) at -0.45 percent. Group III (housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels) and group IX (education) recorded no change in index or were stagnant.



Commodities recorded as contributing to or contributing to inflation in February 2020 include red chilies, garlic, bananas, cayenne pepper, mixed ice, washing machines, gold jewelry, chayote, mangoes and body wash.



Of the 90 CPI cities, 73 cities experienced inflation and 17 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation was recorded in Kota Sintang (West Kalimantan) as high as 1.21 percent, while the lowest inflation was recorded in Kota Pare-Pare (South Sulawesi) as high as 0.02 percent. Meanwhile, the deepest deflation was recorded in Tanjung Pandan City (Bangka Belitung) as deep as -1.20 percent, while the lowest deflation was recorded in Padangsidimpuan (North Sumatra) as deep as -0.01 percent. If sorted from the highest inflation, Denpasar ranks 36 out of 73 cities experiencing inflation.
