In July 2020 the City of Denpasar experienced deflation of -0.46 percent as indicated by a decrease in the Consumer Price Index (base year 2018 = 100) from 104.40 in June 2020 to 103.92 in July 2020. Meanwhile, the inflation rate for the year running in July 2020 was recorded as high as 0.26 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (July 2020 against July 2019 or YoY) was recorded as high as 0.92 percent.
Of the eleven expenditure groups, five expenditure groups recorded deflation, namely group IV (equipment, tools and routine household maintenance) at -1.77 percent; group I (food, beverages, and tobacco) as deep as -1.29 percent; group VI (transportation) as deep as -1.05 percent; group II (clothing and footwear) with a depth of -0.61 percent; and group III (housing, water, electricity, and household fuel) at -0.03 percent. Meanwhile, four expenditure groups recorded inflation, namely group IX (education) as high as 1.42 percent; group VIII (recreation, sports, and culture) as high as 0.41 percent; group VII (information, communication and financial services) as high as 0.08 percent; and group XI (personal care and other services) as high as 0.05 percent. Two expenditure groups recorded that the index did not change or were stagnant, namely group V (health) and group X (provision of food and beverages / restaurants).
Commodities recorded as contributing to or contributing to deflation in July 2020 include air transport rates, canang sari, shallots, bottled water, purebred chicken, cayenne pepper, oranges, red chilies, liquid bath soap, and green mustard greens.
Of the 90 CPI cities, 61 cities experienced deflation and 29 cities experienced inflation. The deepest deflation was recorded in Kota Manokwari as deep as -1.09 percent, while the lowest deflation was recorded in Kota Gunung Sitoli, Kota Bogor, Kota Bekasi, Kota Luwuk, and Kota Bulukumba as deep as -0.01 percent respectively. Meanwhile, the highest inflation was recorded in Kota Timika as high as 1.45 percent, while the lowest inflation was recorded in Kota Jember and Kota Banyuwangi as high as 0.01 percent respectively. If sorted from the deepest deflation, Denpasar ranks 8th out of 61 cities experiencing deflation.
