Abstract

In March 2022, Bali Province (Denpasar City and Singaraja City Combined) recorded inflation as high as 0.91 percent as indicated by an increase in the Consumer Price Index (base year 2018=100) from 107.27 (2018=100) in February 2022 to 108 .25 in March 2022. Meanwhile, the inflation rate for the calendar year (year to date/ytd) in March 2022 was 1.51 percent. The year-on-year inflation rate (March 2022 against March 2021 or YoY) was recorded as high as 2.41 percent.

Inflation occurred due to the increase in the prices of public consumption goods/services as indicated by the increase in CPI in nine expenditure groups, namely: group I (food, beverages, and tobacco) as high as 2.22 percent; group VIII (recreation, sports, and culture) as high as 1.51 percent; group XI (personal care and other services) as high as 1.49 percent; VI (transportation) as high as 1.08 percent; group V (health) as high as 0.53 percent; group IV (equipment, equipment, and routine household maintenance) as high as 0.42 percent; group II (clothing and footwear) as high as 0.22 percent; group X (providing food and beverages/restaurants) as high as 0.14 percent; and group III (housing, water, electricity, and household fuel) as high as 0.05 percent. One group recorded deflation, namely group VII (information, communication, and financial services) as deep as 0.03 percent. Meanwhile, one other expenditure group recorded no change in index or was stagnant, namely group IX (education).

Of the 90 CPI cities, 88 cities experienced inflation and 2 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation was recorded in the City of Merauke (Papua) as high as 1.86 percent. Meanwhile, the deepest deflation was recorded in Tual City (Maluku) as deep as 0.27 percent. If sorted from the highest inflation, Denpasar City ranks 43rd and Singaraja City ranks 6th out of 88 cities experiencing inflation.
