In August 2023, the CPI of Denpasar City and Singaraja City recorded inflation as high as 0.23 percent as indicated by an increase in the Consumer Price Index (base year 2018=100) from 114.93 in July 2023 to 115.19 in August 2023. Meanwhile Therefore, the inflation rate for the calendar year (year to date/ytd) in August 2023 is 1.71 percent. The year-on-year inflation rate (August 2023 to August 2022 or yoy) was recorded as high as 2.99 percent.
Inflation occurred due to an increase in the price of public consumption goods/services as indicated by an increase in the CPI for seven expenditure groups, namely: group IX (education) as high as 2.27 percent; group V (health) as high as 0.48 percent; group XI (personal care and other services) as high as 0.46 percent; group I (food, beverages and tobacco) as high as 0.42 percent; group IV (equipment, equipment and routine household maintenance) as high as 0.36 percent; group VIII (recreation, sports and culture) as high as 0.29 percent; and group X (food and beverage/restaurant provision) as high as 0.15 percent. On the other hand, four groups recorded deflation, namely group VI (transportation) at 0.89 percent; group II (clothing and footwear) as deep as 0.18 percent; group III (housing, water, electricity and household fuel) as deep as 0.11 percent; and group VII (information, communication and financial services) as deep as 0.01 percent.
On a year on year (yoy) basis, the City of Denpasar experienced inflation of 2.91 percent, while the City of Singaraja recorded inflation of 3.44 percent. Nationally, the highest yoy inflation was recorded in Manokwari City (West Papua) at 6.40 percent. On the other hand, the lowest inflation was recorded in Jambi City (Jambi) at 1.92 percent. If ranked by highest yoy inflation, Denpasar City is listed in 70th place, while Singaraja City is recorded in 4th place.
