In June 2018 the city of Denpasar recorded an inflation of 0.38 percent with the Consumer Price Index (CPI 2012 = 100) of 129.94. The calendar year inflation rate (January - June 2018) was recorded at 2.18 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (June 2018 to June 2017 or YoY) was 3.48 percent.
Inflation is indicated by rising indexes in three expenditure categories, namely foodstuff category recorded inflation of 1.25 percent; transport, communication and financial services inflation by 0.51 percent; as well as housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel by 0.24 percent. The recorded expenditure group experienced a decrease in index or experienced deflation was clothing by 0.21 percent; education, recreation and sports group by 0.07 percent; and food, beverage, cigarette and tobacco group by 0.06 percent.
The recorded commodities contributed to inflation in June 2018, among others: chicken meat, eggs, tuna parsang, cayenne pepper, banana, and air transport tariff.
Out of 82 CPI cities, all cities recorded inflation. The highest inflation was recorded in Tarakan (North Kalimantan) of 2.71 percent and the lowest in Pekanbaru (Riau) and Medan (North Sumatra) respectively by 0.01 percent. If sorted from the highest inflation, then Denpasar ranks 64 out of 82 cities experiencing inflation.
