In August 2018 the City of Denpasar recorded an inflation of 0.23 percent with the Consumer Price Index (CPI 2012 = 100) of 130.86. The inflation rate for the calendar year (January - August 2018) was recorded at 2.90 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (August 2018 against August 2017 or YoY) was recorded at 3.82 percent.
Five expenditure groups recorded inflation, namely processed foods, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco by 0.52 percent; foodstuff group by 0.32 percent; health group by 0.30 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group by 0.31 percent; and the education, recreation and sports group by 0.06 percent. Two expenditure groups recorded deflation, namely clothing by 0.11 percent and the transportation, communication and financial services group by 0.09 percent.
Commodities recorded as contributing to or contributing to inflation in August 2018 include: chicken meat, fried chicken, pindang tuna, pork, household fuels, and filter clove cigarettes.
Of the 82 CPI cities, 30 cities experienced inflation and 52 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation was recorded in Tarakan (North Kalimantan) by 0.62 percent and the lowest was in Padangsidempuan (North Sumatra) and Medan (North Sumatra) by 0.01 percent respectively. The highest deflation was recorded in Bau-bau (Southeast Sulawesi) by 2.49 percent while the lowest deflation was recorded in Jember (East Java) by 0.01 percent. If it is sorted from the highest inflation, Denpasar ranks 12th out of 30 cities experiencing inflation.
