Abstract

In May 2020 the City of Denpasar experienced deflation of -0.10 percent as indicated by a decrease in the Consumer Price Index (base year 2018 = 100) from 104.42 in April 2020 to 104.32 in May 2020. Meanwhile, the inflation rate for the year running in May 2020 and year-on-year inflation rates (May 2020 against May 2019 or YoY) were recorded as high as 0.65 percent and 2.05 percent, respectively.



Of the eleven expenditure groups, four expenditure groups recorded deflation, namely group XI (personal care and other services) at -1.90 percent; group IV (equipment, tools, and routine household maintenance) at -1.85 percent deep; group I (food, beverages, and tobacco) as deep as -0.78 percent; and group II (clothing and footwear) with a depth of -0.25 percent. Meanwhile, three groups of expenditures experienced inflation, namely group VI (transportation) as high as 2.89 percent; group VII (information, communication and financial services) as high as 0.44 percent; and group III (housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels) as high as 0.01 percent. Four expenditure groups recorded that the index did not change or were stagnant, namely group V (health); group VIII (recreation, sports and culture); group IX (education); and group X (providing food and beverage / restaurant).



Commodities recorded as contributing to or contributing to deflation in May 2020 include canang sari, cayenne pepper, pindang tongkol, toothpaste, garlic, biscuits, gold jewelry, lipstick, eggs, and sanitary napkins.



Of the 90 CPI cities, 23 cities experienced deflation and 67 cities experienced inflation. The deepest deflation was recorded in Luwuk City (Central Sulawesi) as deep as -0.39 percent while the lowest deflation was recorded in Manado City (North Sulawesi) as deep as -0.01 percent. Meanwhile, the highest inflation was recorded in Tanjung Pandan City (Bangka Belitung) as high as 1.20 percent, while the lowest inflation was recorded in Tanjung Pinang City (Riau Islands), Bogor City (West Java), and Madiun City (East Java) respectively. 0.01 percent. If sorted from the deepest deflation, Denpasar ranks 14 out of 23 cities experiencing deflation.
