Abstract
In July 2018 Denpasar City recorded inflation of 0.48 percent with the Consumer Price Index (CPI 2012 = 100) of 130.56. The inflation rate for the calendar year (January - July 2018) was recorded at 2.67 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (July 2018 against July 2017 or YoY) was recorded at 3.85 percent.
Six expenditure groups recorded inflation, namely the education, recreation and sports group at 1.73 percent; health group by 0.89 percent; foodstuffs group by 0.69 percent; the transportation, communication and financial services group by 0.64 percent; clothing group by 0.39 percent; as well as processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco groups by 0.04 percent. One expenditure group recorded deflation, namely the housing, water, electricity and fuel group by 0.03 percent.
Commodities recorded as contributing to or contributing to inflation in July 2018 included: gasoline, elementary school fees, high school fees, wages for domestic helpers, cayenne pepper, pork, broiler eggs and broiler meat .
Of the 82 CPI cities, 68 cities experienced inflation and 14 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation was recorded in Sorong (West Papua) by 1.47 percent and the lowest was in Surabaya and Banyuwangi (East Java) and Depok (West Java) respectively by 0.03 percent. The highest deflation was recorded in Ambon (Maluku) by 1.45 percent while the lowest deflation was recorded in Palembang (South Sumatra) by 0.01 percent. When sorted from the highest inflation, Denpasar ranks 29th out of 68 cities experiencing inflation.
