In March 2020 the City of Denpasar was recorded to experience inflation as high as 0.11 percent as indicated by the Consumer Price Index (CPI 2018 = 100) of 104.76. Meanwhile, the inflation rate for the year March 2020 and the year-on-year inflation rate (March 2020 against March 2019 or YoY) were recorded as high as 1.07 percent and 2.95 percent, respectively.
Of the eleven expenditure groups, six expenditure groups recorded inflation (m to m), namely group IV (equipment, tools and routine household maintenance) as high as 1.61 percent; group XI (personal care and other services) as high as 1.42 percent; group II (clothing and footwear) as high as 0.68 percent; group X (provision of food and beverages / restaurants) as high as 0.28 percent; group VII (information, communication and financial services) as high as 0.02 percent; and group V (health) as high as 0.01 percent. Meanwhile, two expenditure groups recorded deflation, namely group VI (transportation) at -0.88 percent and group I (food, beverages, and tobacco) at -0.20 percent. Group III (housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels); group VIII (recreation, sports and culture); and group IX (education) recorded no change in index or was stagnant.
Commodities recorded as contributing to or contributing to inflation in March 2020 include canang sari, gold jewelry, mango, broiler chicken, oily pastries, eggs, green mustard greens, chicory, bananas, and ground coffee.
Of the 90 CPI cities, 43 cities experienced inflation and 47 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation was recorded in Kota Lhokseumawe (Aceh) as high as 0.64 percent, while the lowest inflation was recorded in Kota Surabaya (East Java), Kota Surakarta (Central Java), and Kota Pekanbaru (Riau) as high as 0.01 percent respectively. Meanwhile, the deepest deflation was recorded in the City of Timika (Papua) at -1.91 percent, while the lowest deflation was recorded in Kota Tangerang (Banten) at -0.01 percent. If sorted from the highest inflation, Denpasar City ranks 25 out of 43 cities experiencing inflation.
